Recovering energy from waste is a means to meet both our waste management agenda and deliver on our renewable energy goals. Energy plants using such fuels can further maximise their efficiency through the utilisation of combined heat and power. However, there are barriers to doing so that are not just technical – it also demands the need to engage at a local level. This day, co-sponsored by DECC and Defra, gives local authority waste and planning officers an opportunity to understand this approach and apply it to their local circumstances.
